Meet the Author, Bruce Leiter

Hi, everyone! God made me into a non-stuffy English teacher for 8 years with an English Master's at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, where I learned to write well; a sales manager for 3 years, where I learned to rejoice in God's blessings and to struggle as he withheld his blessings and as he then prepared me to go back to school for 4 years to become a pastor of 7 churches; and now an author of Christian books in my retirement from the ministry. I now see God's overall plan for my life.
Anyway, now I have almost completed a revision of my first finished, as-yet-unpublished book with the title Doubting? Contact Doubtbusters! I've enjoyed writing this most-unusual book, for which I received the idea on a summer night in '07, not 1907--I'm old, but not that old:)! However, though I may be old in body (it reminds me of that fact every day!), I'm still young at heart!
I created this blog to talk with any of you who wish to be open and honest in your ideas and feelings about faith, doubt, Christian beliefs, unbelief, the church, God, Jesus--whatever bugs you, iritates you, or gives you joy about the Bible's amazing God and his church.
Let's keep our language clean and respectful, because that kind of language is pleasing to God.
Your blogging partner, Bruce Leiter (I don't go for titles.)

  1. What are your views on funneling government money to churches through the faith-based initiative?

  2. Thanks for your response. We lived in Canada for five years. They don't have hang-ups about government money being used for only secular schools, for example. They figure that all of the children need education. As a result, where we were, the public school board payed the salaries of the Christian school teachers as long as they used the public school curriculum. However, the Christian school could teach it in a Christian way.
The same applies to helping poor people in the USA, I believe. Why not support organizations that are helping people with their basic needs? Separation of church and state was originally meant for the disestablishment of a state church, of which I'm completely in favor. However, if religious and secular organizations are doing what the government wants to do, I say support both as long as there is no direct proselytizing to a certain religion going on.
It seems to me that we often go to extremes about the Constitution rather than examining the original intent of the Founders.

  3. I apologize that I haven't kept my blog up very well. I hope to improve in the future. I continue to wait for a publisher for my first book, since they are still deciding whether or not to publish Doubtbusters! God Is My Shrink! You can read a summary and five chapters at authonomy.com/Christian, a web site for writers to display their "wares." If you feel inclined to vote for my book, the top five will be reviewed by Harper Collins. Thanks!
